COS Centennial logoDear COS Member:

We have a fantastic milestone to celebrate in 2012 –  the Clinical Orthopaedic Society will be 100 years old! Very few organizations have that longevity, which emphasizes the value our membership has placed on this organization over the years. One of the key points of focus for this group has been the art of the physical exam. An art that is being  replaced by a dependence on a multitude of extraneous tests. As we enter a new era of health care funding, the art of the physical exam is only going to become more important because we will not be allowed to order multiple expensive diagnostic tests.

To celebrate a century of sharing our clinical expertise with our fellow members, a special endowment fund has been established at OREF. This fund will be used to support the training of future residents in the art of the physical exam at our annual meeting. We are hopeful that we will be able to select some of the brightest and most talented young orthopaedic surgeons in their training to take advantage of this opportunity  while becoming familiar with our organization at the same time, and perhaps becoming a member. By special arrangement any contributions designated for this fund will be allocated on a 100% basis to it!

I know how much I have enjoyed my association with the Clinical Orthopaedic Society. I have picked up many “pearls” and formed many long term friendships with its members. Won’t you please help us in this effort? We have established a goal of $500,000 through a combination of current cash donations and future deferred bequests. The Board and society leadership have already given generously. Attached is a pledge form which I hope you will fill out and send to OREF in support of this significant effort to celebrate our heritage as an organization.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Thanks for your support!

James J. Hamilton, M.D.
