A Message From The PresidentLet me begin by saying how humbled and honored I am to serve as the president of the Clinical Orthopaedic Society in the coming year. The Clinical Orthopaedic During the next year, we have many exciting projects planned for the Clinical Orthopaedic Society. These include finalizing plans for our 2012 Centennial Meeting, and trying to obtain a seat on the American Academy of Orthopaedics Board of Councilors. In addition, Dr. James Hamilton is heading up a fund raising project that will create a $500,000.00 endowment fund to provide scholarships for residents and fellows to attend our 100th Annual Meeting. We also face a number of challenges. One of our biggest is declining membership. With increasing demands on time and money, it is becoming increasingly difficult for orthopaedic surgeons to take time away from their practices to participate in societies and attend meetings such as ours. I really feel this is disappointing as a number of participants at our last meeting told me how much they enjoyed the diversity of topics that we cover. As a result, we need to redouble our efforts to not only retain current members but recruit new members to our prestigious society. I would like to challenge each member to recruit at least one new member to this society in the coming year. I would like to close thanking you all for allowing me the privilege of being your president during the coming year, and look forward to seeing you all at the meeting in Denver. |
