Sister Ruth Kennedy named Presidential Guest Speaker
By William Warner, MD
I am pleased to announce the selection of Sister Ruth Kennedy as my presidential guest speaker for our annual meeting. I had the opportunity to meet her at her workplace in February 2006 while working in Ethiopia.
Ruth is the Public Relations Liaison Officer for the Hamlin Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She will bring a story mixed with sadness, suffering, rejection, and hope about the women of Ethiopia caused by complications of childbirth. These complications include many orthopaedic conditions. Her presentation will also chronicle the formation of a world wide foundation and the establishment of the world famous Hamlin Fistula Hospital by Doctors Reginald and Katherine Hamlin. Hospital by the River by Katherine Hamlin tells the story in great detail.
Her work has encompassed visits to world wide governmental leaders including our own congress. World leaders and famous people have visited and observed their amazing work. Oprah gave them two million dollars to expand the hospital.
It is an honor to have Sister Ruth travel from half way around the world to address our society and our guests. I am sure that her comments will touch you as they have they have millions of lives.
