Dear COS Member,
In 2012 our society will be 100 years old! To celebrate this remarkable milestone we hope to fund a $500,000 endowment for the society from both cash and deferred gifts. Income from this endowment will be used to allow young physicians to attend our meetings and receive training from COS members who are expert in the art of the physical exam. This art is being lost as many of our younger physicians are relying more and more on imaging and tests to make a diagnosis, adding unnecessarily to the cost of care and increasing patients' exposure to radiation. As a society of leaders, COS has always recognized the importance of a skillful physical exam. Thanks to patients who share our commitment to quality care, a live demonstration of the exam has been a hallmark of COS meetings for the past 100 years. Will you help ensure that it continues for the next hundred? The COS Centennial brochure describes this entire campaign. As you make your charitable contributions, please consider the COS in your plans. When you are ready to contribute, you may make a secure gift online at www.oref.org/cosanniversary or complete and mail the COS Centennial pledge form. We look forward to having your support to ensure the success of this campaign. I hope to see you at our next meeting and be able to personally thank you for your generous support. James J. Hamilton, M.D.
COS/OREF partner to form foundation endowment COS AND OREF It is a pleasure to inform our membership that the Clinical Orthopaedic Society has partnered with the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) and has established an endowment fund with OREF. Endowments are funds created to receive gifts that are held permanently with only the interest used to support ongoing research and educational programs. By establishing this endowment fund, Clinical Orthopaedic Society members will have a tremendous opportunity to support our society in perpetuity by contributing to OREF and designating the Clinical Orthopaedic Society Endowment. The Clinical Orthopaedic Society joins a list of more than 25 specific endowment funds at OREF. OREF continues to make it a high priority to establish partnerships with other orthopaedic organizations. It is clear that by working with the many different organizations within the specialty OREF can maximize the dollars available to support high quality research and education programs. Established in 1955, OREF has proudly funded more than $55 million to young and new investigators through more than 1900 grants and awards. Generous supporters of OREF include orthopaedic surgeons, physician groups, institutions, corporations, and grateful patients. Designate your Annual OREF Contributions to COS
